A couple of months ago, the Federal Trade Commission reported that the number of the irritating calls had declined, thanks in part to the agency’s actions. Now, the FTC is out with more good news: the number of reported robocalls for April and May is even lower.
The FTC’s latest Do Not Call Registry data shows robocall complaints were down 68% in April 2020 compared to the year before 60% in May compared to the year before. The number of reported robocalls in the past two months is the lowest the agency has seen since August 2011. It says robocalls weren’t replaced with live calls, either: the number of illegal calls from live callers is down as well. Christopher Cruise, Washington. The decline in calls follows warning letters sent by the FTC and the FCC the last two months to companies providing voice over internet protocol services that apparently routed or transmitted coronavirus-scam robocalls. The FTC is promising more actions against the practice.
