More Than A Million Dead People Got Stimulus Checks
(Washington, DC) — The government sent stimulus checks to more than a million dead people. The Government Accountability Office says the checks total one-point-four-billion-dollars. Congress rushed through the stimulus bill to deal with the economic fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. In its report to Congress, the G-A-O says more than 160 million payments were made totaling 269-billion-dollars. It found in an effort to get the checks out as fast as possible the Treasury Department did not check Social Security death records to halt payments to the deceased. The IRS is trying to get the checks back from the families of those who died.
