LA Sheriff Villanueva Condemns Proposed LASD Budget Cuts

(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva says cutting millions from his department’s budget is a threat to public safety. The newly proposed county budget deflates the sheriff’s department’s funding by more than 145-million-dollars and would lay-off hundreds of staff members. On Saturday Villanueva lashed out against it, saying the Board of Supervisors is jumping on the “defund the police” bandwagon. Villanueva also says the budget passing would mean several divisions of the LASD disappear, including the one that investigates gangs and the one that investigates rapes. He claims the entire county budget is being balanced at the expense of the sheriff’s department.
