>>Wayne’s Family Speaks Out About Airport Potential Name Change

(Undated) — John Wayne’s family is pushing back as many demand an airport in Orange County drop his name due to a racist statement. TMZ reports Wayne’s son issued a statement defending his late father. He says it would be a shame Wayne was judged off one interview where he said he believed in white supremacy instead of his whole character. He says his father realized his feelings were wrongly conveyed in the interview. He believes Wayne would be on the forefront of demanding change if he were alive today.

(Santa Ana, CA) — California Democrats are hoping to rename a Southern California airport honoring actor John Wayne. A resolution by the Orange County Democratic Party calls for the Santa Ana airport to be changed back to its former name, the Orange County Airport. It also seeks the removal of Wayne’s statue over his racist comments. The group cites comments made by Wayne in a 1971 Playboy interview, in which he said he believes in white supremacy.
