>L.A. School Police Budget Cut Down 35%
(Los Angeles, CA) — The Los Angeles school police force is getting more than a third of their funding chopped. Late Tuesday night, the L.A. Board of Education approved a 35-percent budget cut that takes 25-million-dollars away from school cops. That cut is starting right away, which means 65 officers will be laid off. The funding will instead go toward improving conditions for black students and creating a task force aimed at reforming campus safety. As part of the decision, school officers also have to stop wearing their uniforms away from campus and patrolling off-site.
