(Los Angeles, CA) — A civil liberties advocacy group is suing Governor Gavin Newsom over his decision to keep schools closed in several counties. Newsom’s executive order says counties on the state watch list for dangerous coronavirus numbers have to keep students at home. The suit was filed by the Center for American Liberty in Los Angeles on Tuesday and claims the governor and other state officials are denying students their “right to basic education.” Newsom’s executive order affects schools in more than 30 counties, including L.A., Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino.
