EDD Says New Fed Unemployment Benefits Could Take Up To 20 Weeks

(Sacramento, CA) — California’s EDD head said the state could take as long as 20 weeks to process new federal unemployment benefits. Sharon Hilliard calls the department’s system “antiquated.” The Legislative Analyst’s Office says about four-point-four-million Californians are currently receiving unemployment benefits. The report also says the EDD’s current claims processing workload is two to three times greater than the peak of the Great Recession.
