Sanity Returning: Orange County To Accept Elementary School Reopening Waiver Applications

(Santa Ana, CA) — Some of Orange County’s elementary school students could be heading back to the classroom soon after all. On Tuesday, acting health officer Dr. Clayton Chau said the county will accept waiver applications. Under Governor Gavin Newsom’s new plan, counties on the state coronavirus watch-list can still reopen elementary schools, if they determine it’s safe. State recommendations say waivers should only be accepted if a county has less than 200 coronavirus cases per every 100-thousand people. Orange County is below that mark, but that might be because of a delay in case data since state labs are lagging. Dr. Chau says accepting the waivers depends on the true number.
