(Newport Beach, CA) — It looked for a time like Newport Beach swimmers could “never go in the water again” after a young shark washed up on shore. The predator was first spotted Friday night thrashing around in the sand near the Balboa Pier. Lifeguards told NBC 4 the shark was almost dead when it washed up. Animal Control officers arrived and euthanized the fish that may have suffered from serious injuries — possibly after getting caught in a net. Local swimmers did not go into the water for several hours after the incident.
