(Sacramento, CA) — A return-to-work bill gets the thumbs down from Governor Gavin Newsom. AB 3216 was vetoed yesterday. The bill sought to establish certain rights for laid off employees in some service and transportation industries. Requirements included rehiring employees who were downsized first. Also, if an employer hired someone else for a job, the name of the new hire would be provided to the laid off employee. Newsom issued a statement saying the bill “risks the sharing of too much personal information” and would create a “confusing patchwork” of regulations. He urged the legislature to come up with a more reasonable bill.
