(Washington, DC) — The FDA is approving remdesivir as a treatment for COVID-19. Gilead Sciences made the announcement today that the drug it first created to treat ebola patients has received official authorization. The FDA is giving the drug remdesivir full approval to treat coronavirus patients. This is what President Trump received during his hospital stay this month. The drug’s maker says remdesivir reduces recovery time by an average of four days in severe cases. The FDA had previously granted emergency approval. The company says its drug reduces recovery time by an average of four days in patients who are sick enough to require hospitalization.
