School Officials Respond To Councilman’s Plans To Force Schools To Reopen

(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles school officials are speaking out after a city councilman said the city will sue schools to reopen. Superintendent Austin Beutner and some members of the Board of Education say councilman Joe Buscaino’s announcement was a “political stunt.” Buscaino made a motion to direct the city attorney to look at legal options to force L.A. schools to reopen. School officials say the COVID levels in the city are still not meeting the state’s standards for reopening schools. Beutner says they will not “break state law” to reopen.
