(San Francisco, CA) — The San Francisco School Board is pausing the renaming of 44 schools and instead is focusing on reopening them. President of the San Francisco Board of Education Gabriela Lopez says bringing students back into the classroom is the top priority. The Board had voted last month to remove the names of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Dianne Feinstein from public schools following an avalanche of criticism arguing they were no longer suitable in San Francisco. But on Twitter, the Board president now admits the renaming effort was a mistake and any decision needs more community input.
