Forty Percent Reserved For Vulnerable Communities
(Sacramento, CA) — California is reserving 40 percent of all vaccine doses for communities that have been hit hardest by the coronavirus. Governor Newsom’s office today announced the state is seeking to reach 2 million vaccine doses in those communities in an effort to open up more activities safely. The goal, Newsom said, is to vaccinate Californians who are most at risk and most exposed. State data shows the rate of infections for those making less than 40-thousand dollars a year is more than double that of households with an income of 120-thousand dollars or above. California’s wealthiest populations are also getting vaccinated at nearly twice the rate of those considered to be most vulnerable to the virus. This latest change adding vaccinations to the reopening metric, will impact the reopening ‘tier’ structure, possibly keeping some ‘purple’ counties in the ‘red’ tier longer
