(Fontana, CA) — A new study suggests regular exercise reduces the risk of severe coronavirus symptoms. It found COVID patients who exercised on a regular basis before getting sick were less likely to be hospitalized, admitted to the ICU or die from the virus. The study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine by researchers at Kaiser Permanente Fontana Medical Center and other California institutions used data from nearly 50-thousand adult patients. They also found patients who were consistently inactive had a greater risk of hospitalization, admission to the ICU and death. They recommend following the U.S. Physical Activity Guidelines of doing at least 150 minutes a week of moderate physical activity or at least 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic physical activity.
