Phone Delays Still Plague Gavin Newsom’s Unemployment System

(Sacramento, CA) — California residents are still hearing busy signals when calling about their unemployment claims. In a press release on May 4th, EDD officials say they’ve implemented updates to decrease jammed phone lines. One feature eliminates waiting on the phone to connect with a representative. The new system holds a person’s place in a virtual line and a representative calls them back when they’ve reached the front. EDD is also hiring more staff and training them to handle unique questions about claims. Critics say technology issues have been plaguing EDD for a decade and the Newsom administration should have made fixing them a priority.
