Long Beach plans to save the Queen Mary

(Long Beach, CA) — Long Beach officials are set on preserving the historic Queen Mary ship, but exactly how is still up in the air. This was the consensus after last week’s City Council meeting. Engineering consultant firm Moffatt & Nichol says the ship could be preserved; de-constructed; recycled; or turned into an artificial reef. They estimate that any of these options would cost roughly 100-million dollars. The city gained ownership of the vessel after the previous owner filed for bankruptcy earlier this year.
