Feds nab Mark Ridley-Thomas on corruption charges

By

/

A current Los Angeles City Councilman and a former college dean are being indicted by federal prosecutors. Mark Ridley-Thomas is facing corruption charges related to his former position on the LA County Board of Supervisors. Also named in the 20-count indictment is Marilyn Louise Flynn. She’s the former dean of USC’s School of Social Work. The feds accuse them of an illegal scheme to get a relative of the veteran politician into the school. Prosecutors allege the family member got benefits from the school in exchange for Ridley-Thomas supporting county contracts for USC. The LA Times reports the politician’s son received admission to the school as well as employment at USC and a full-ride scholarship. The feds say $100,000 was funneled from Ridley-Thomas’s campaign through the school to a non-profit where his son Sebastain would work. Stay tuned to KABC for updates on this developing story.
