(Los Angeles, CA) — The coronavirus vaccine mandate for student athletes is quickly approaching in Los Angeles. As it does, it’s putting thousands of students at risk of being kicked off teams if they’re not fully vaccinated. Officials with the LA Unified School District confirmed this yesterday, adding it impacts student musicians in band as well. Those under the age of 18 will need evidence of two doses of Pfizer’s COVID vaccine by October 31st and the doses must be three weeks apart. The school system confirmed 70-percent of its students in sports, band and drill had at least one vaccine dose as of yesterday. Documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times showed as of October 20th, over eight-thousand students were at risk of being cut from extra-curricular activities.
