DWR Announces Initial State Water Project Allocation

(Sacramento, CA) — California officials are limiting water delivery next year to the various cities and farm-irrigation districts that belong to the State Water Project. Department of Water Resources Director Karla Nemeth anticipates a third dry year as reservoirs are at or near historic lows.

Nemeth says it's a move they've never done before, but it doesn't mean no water will be delivered. DWR will prioritize water supply in four categories: water for health and safety needs and Delta salinity control, water for endangered species, to reserve in storage and for additional supply allocations.

DWR Director Karla Nemeth says despite a wet start to the water year, conditions have already dried out since the first storm.
