Russia UN Rep Claims Those Of Eastern Ukraine Declared Independence Years Ago

(New York, NY) — Russia’s UN representative claims the provinces of Eastern Ukraine declared their independence years ago. He said that the two provinces called for their independence in 2014, but they recognized the provinces sovereignty today. He made accusations that Ukraine have jeopardized the safety of those in the eastern part of the country with threats of attacks. The Russian representative added that they are still open to diplomacy to resolve the situation.

US Speaks at UN Security Council Meeting

(New York, NY) — During a late-night meeting of the United National Security Council, U.S. ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said that Russia’s statement that its army is on “peacekeeping duties” is “nonsense.” The ambassador said that the recognition of regions in eastern Ukraine is – in her words – “clearly the basis for Russia’s attempt to create a pretext for a further invasion of Ukraine.” She said that Russia’s actions are a violation of the basic principle of international law.

(New York, NY) — The UN Security Council is meeting tonight as Russia seems ready to invade Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said he now recognizes parts of eastern Ukraine as part of Russia and he is ready to send in troops. This has rattled the European Union and leaders there are also meeting today with President Biden.
