It’s like a criminals paradise: LA County closing Men’s Central Jail. Where they gonna put the crooks?

(Los Angeles, CA) — A Los Angeles sheriff is suing the county over plans to close the Men’s Central Jail. This comes after lawmakers passed the “Care First, Jails Last” program, aiming to close the jail with no alternative housing for more than 12-thousand inmates. Sheriff Alex Villanueva is taking legal action against the Board of Supervisors to keep the jail open. He said all inmates are court-ordered to be there, so the board has no right to release them for custody. He added that the program focuses on counseling, yet they want to release the roughly 900 criminals who experience mental illness. This comes as the LA County Sheriff’s Department has seen a 47-million dollar decrease in jail funding over the past two years.
