(Palm Desert, CA) — “Seinfeld” fans continue to remember Estelle Harris. The red-haired actress with the distinctive voice died Saturday of natural causes at her Palm Desert home — three weeks shy of her 94th birthday. Harris is best known for portraying the mother of hapless George Costanza on the sitcom that ran on NBC from 1990 until 1998. Jayson Alexander — who played George — wrote on Twitter, “The joy of playing with her and relishing her glorious laughter was a treat.” Harris didn’t begin her acting career until she was in her late 40s. Before “Seinfeld” — she appeared in dozens of TV commercials as well as the big screen features “Once Upon a Time in America” and “Stand and Deliver.” Harris also made guest appearances on many television series including “Mad About You,” “Married with Children” and “Night Court.”
