(Salt Lake County, UT) — The Salt Lake County Health Department is investigating two possible cases of monkeypox. It’s a viral disease that occurs mostly in central and western Africa. Health officials say both individuals are from the same household and became symptomatic after traveling internationally to an area experiencing an uptick in cases. Both patients are experiencing mild symptoms and should recover. Exposure concerns for monkeypox are generally limited to people who had direct contact with a patient. Health officials are still awaiting test results from the CDC to confirm preliminary results.
