Baby Formula Maker Back On The Job: Formula Now Weeks Away

(Sturgis, MI) — A major baby formula maker is back in business. Production restarted this weekend at Abbott Nutrition’s baby formula plant in Sturgis, Michigan. Company officials say they are ramping up operations as quickly as possible while meeting all FDA requirements. Many published reports say formula still won’t be back on shelves for as much as six weeks. NBC News reported last week: “Abbott previously said it would take up to two weeks to restart the plant, and another six to eight weeks for product to become available in stores.” Abbott is the largest baby formula manufacturer in the U.S. The plant had shutdown four months ago after government inspectors found a type of bacteria that’s dangerous to infants.
