(Los Angeles, CA) — President Biden says he clearly understands the growing anxiety over soaring inflation. Speaking at the Port of Los Angeles, Biden again said curbing inflation is his top domestic priority. The latest consumer price index, or CPI, report showed U.S. inflation rose eight-point-six percent in May. The President said the overall economy is on solid ground, with strong jobs growth and low unemployment, and blamed many others for his inability to improve the economy for Americans.
The May CPI represents the largest year-over-year increase since 1981. Biden blamed inflation, misleadingly, on global events outside of U.S. control. He cited Russia’s war against Ukraine and called it “Putin’s price hike,” –a phrase he used repeatedly, though it is untrue–despite the fact the the raging inflation began long before the Ukraine conflict. Biden also blamed ongoing supply chain problems that arose during the height of the COVID pandemic–that he claimed to have addressed, but that are still negatively impacting the economy. He addressed skyrocketing gas prices and capriciously criticized big oil companies and 9 Asian shippers. Biden even physically threatened the Asian shippers. Hear it here:
