New Catalytic Converter Bill Signed In California
(Sacramento, CA) — A new law aims to curb catalytic converter thefts in California. The bill was introduced as a property crimes bill by Fresno Republican Assemblymember Jim Patterson, and it allows the CHP to join local law enforcement agencies in investigating catalytic converter thefts. These type of thefts have risen across the state. Claims data from State Farm showed that it paid for eleven-hundred catalytic converter thefts in California in 2019. That jumped to over 45-hundred thefts in 2020, and over nine-thousand in 2021.
