(Sacramento, CA) — The morning battle of getting kids out of bed for school may be a little easier thanks to a new law. The law is based on studies that found teenagers perform better when they sleep longer. It also showed they’re happier. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the law into effect in 2019 but gave schools until 2022 to comply. California middle schools are not allowed to start before 8 a.m. and high schools can’t start before 8:30 a.m. At this time, elementary schools are not included in the requirement, but some are moving their start times to accommodate issues with transportation.
Cali schools daily start time now no earlier than 8:30a for high schoolers.
