Downey Police Name Suspects Arrested For Monterey Park Officer Death

(Los Angeles, CA) – Authorities are announcing two arrests in connection with the killing of a Southern California police officer. Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón says Carlos Delcid is the accused shooter. He’s expected to be arraigned Wednesday. A minor is also in custody. That 17-year-old is the alleged getaway driver. The D-A says the shooting was an attempted robbery. Twenty-six-year-old officer Gardiel Solorio was shot and killed outside of a gym in Downey earlier this week. He was a rookie cop with the Monterey Park Police Department. He was shot while off-duty and was sitting in his car in a busy parking lot on Monday.

An off-duty Monterey Park police officer who was shot and killed in Downey on Monday has been identified.

26-year-old Gardiel Solorio was hired as a police recruit in January and had just started field training late last month. Solorio, a Bell Gardens native was shot several times in broad daylight in a busy parking lot just steps away from an LA Fitness gym. Authorities say there are looking at several possible scenarios, including the possibility of this being a carjacking/robbery attempt or a possible road rage incident. Solorio is survived by his parents, brothers, sisters and fiancée.
