Statewide Flex Alert Issued
(Los Angeles, CA) — A statewide Flex Alert will be in effect from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The California Independent System Operator is urging energy conservation because of high heat across the state. Most of the heightened electricity usage will likely be because of air conditioners. The power grid will be at its most stressed in the late afternoon and early evening because of high demand and less solar energy. Cal ISO says emergency power outages are possible if the energy grid becomes too overwhelmed. This comes as the state is –as it seems we are every summer– in a drought, with restrictions on water use and threats of mandatory water cutoffs.
