Dem Mayor of El Paso defends sending busloads of migrants to NYC, says he has permission for NY Mayor.

(El Paso, TX) — The mayor of El Paso says his city is committed to keeping migrants from being homeless and helping them get where they need to go safely.

Appearing on ABC’s This Week, Mayor Oscar Leeser says the city is working with both the border patrol and charitable groups to make sure people have safe passage to their final destination. He noted that the number of the people crossing the border into El Paso is increasing and about half of them arrive without a sponsor.

The New York Post reports that the Mayor of El Paso and the Mayor of New York, Eric Adams have deal of sorts. Last week the Post reported:

“Mayor Eric Adams agreed to “welcome” migrants sent to the Big Apple by El Paso, his Democratic counterpart in that town revealed — despite harshly denouncing Republican Gov. Greg Abbott over a similar relocation program.

The deal — which sees the city embrace as many as 200 new arrivals a day — also came as Adams repeatedly blamed the ongoing influx of migrants for overwhelming the city’s shelter system, which he said Wednesday was “nearing its breaking point.”

Today the Post said:

The Democratic mayor of El Paso, Texas, on Sunday defended his move to send his own buses of migrants to New York City — with the permission of Mayor Eric Adams — saying his goal is to “help them get to their destination.”

Following Leeser on “This Week,” Adams echoed Democratic counterpart’s point about “sponsors” — but did not directly address The Post’s report that his administration had agreed to receive as many as 200 migrants per day from El Paso.

The mayor of El Paso also said anyone being placed on a bus knows where they’re going and is given adequate supplies for the journey. His comments come as Texas Governor Greg Abbott faces intense backlash for busing asylum seekers to sanctuary cities like New York.
