(Atlanta, GA) — More than 80-percent of pregnancy deaths in the U.S. are avoidable. That’s according to a new report by the CDC. Data showed the leading underlying causes are excessive bleeding, cardiac conditions, infection, and mental health issues. More than half of the deaths occurred from a week to up to a year after pregnancy. The CDC says the report shows the need for healthcare professionals to pay closer attention to complications that can happen both during and after pregnancy.
