California May Ban Diesel-Powered Trucks Over Charges Of “Racist” Practices? That won’t send prices through the roof, will it?

(Sacramento, CA) — California officials want to ban diesel trucks to cut pollution and end, what they say, is a legacy of racism. The California Air Resources Board wants to ban the sale of all diesel semi-trucks by 2040 to fight climate change and end decades of racist practices. According to the agency, Black and Latino populations experienced “significantly greater air pollution impacts than white populations.” This is because the agency says the diesel vehicles are used primarily in areas of low-income and minority communities due to racist zoning policies. The proposal follows a recent vote by the agency to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
