Shohei Signs One-Year Contract With Angels

(Anaheim, CA) — It looks like Shohei Ohtani will remain an Angel next year. The team and the two-way superstar agreed on a 30-million-dollar contract for the 2023 season. This is the largest amount for any Major League Baseball player eligible for arbitration. Unless the team signs Ohtani to a long-term deal, the 28-year-old Japanese-born pitcher and designated hitter will be eligible to become a free agent after next season. His free agency is expected to touch off a historic bidding war. Shohei won American League Most Valuable Player honors last year after going nine-and-two on the mound and hitting 46 home runs. This season, he has 34 homers and 94 RBIs. He’s also 15-and-eight with a 2.35 [[ two point three five ]] E-R-A as a starting pitcher. Ohtani was four outs away from pitching a no-hitter Thursday night in the Halos’ four-two win over the Oakland A’s in Anaheim.
