LA City Council Member Addresses Council After Scandal
(Los Angeles, CA) — Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin is calling for harmony. Bonin addressed the council today after fellow Councilmember Nury Martinez was caught on tape making racial remarks about his son. Bonin went on to say the remarks are the worst of Los Angeles and the dozens of protesters at the meeting are the best of L.A. He’s calling for city leaders to be their best self and lead with love. A visibly shaken Bonin was greeted with a standing ovation after his remarks. Martinez is facing a flood of criticism and calls for her resignation after calling Bonin’s son a little monkey.
(Los Angeles, CA) — President Biden says all members of the Los Angeles City Council involved in the a recorded conversation in which racist remarks were made should resign. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that Biden is “glad to see” council president Nury Martinez resigned–which she did not– but thinks they all should Martinez resigned as President and took a leave of absence form the council. Jean-Pierre also said the language used in the conversation was “unacceptable and appalling.” The leaked audio revealed Martinez and two other members making disparaging and racist remarks.
