(Los Angeles, CA) — As calls continue for two Los Angeles City Council members to resign, both men are being stripped of committee assignments, but refusing to quit. Acting Council President Mitch O’Farrell says Kevin De Leon and Gil Cedillo are being taken off several council committees.
This brings to mind the time DeLeon mangled the pledge of allegiance–which is worth a listen– after fellow racist commenter Nury Martinez asked DeLeon to lead the council. Here it hear:
Both men were caught making racist remarks about redistricting in a conversation with then-Council President Nury Martinez. She resigned last week after outrage over remarks the three council members made with a top Los Angeles labor leader. Since the scandal took off a week ago, O’Farrell says De Leon has not returned his calls. For his part, Cedillo is talking to the council and has reportedly agreed to not attend Tuesday’s meeting. That council meeting will be virtual now that members Paul Krekorian and Mike Bonin say they have COVID-19. Some community activists want the council to use the next meeting to appoint an African-American member to be the new City Council President.
