(Undated) — A county in Northern California is reporting a low ballot rejection rate, but one group isn’t buying it. The Mercury News reports Alameda County showed a point-three percent rejection rate. In comparison, counties like San Bernardino and Merced had a rate of three percent or more. The low figure is prompting the Alameda County Taxpayers Association to bring accusations of counting late ballots. An attorney for the group said there would be an uproar if county health officials reported cardiac arrest deaths with a similar rate. The president of the nonpartisan California Voter Foundation said the number is startling, but there’s a possibility the county could have made a typo when reporting the data.
Keeping an eye on the election process: Amid quest for ‘election integrity’, questions about ballot rejection rate arise.
