(Washington, DC) — The head of Customs and Border Protection may be on his way out as criticism of the situation at the border piles up. CNN reports Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has asked Commissioner Chris Magnus to step down. However, Magnus told the Los Angeles Times he’s planning to stay in his job. This comes weeks after Politico interviewed five current administration officials who work with Magnus. They all claimed he was disengaged and slept through key meetings as the border crisis worsened. Magnus said at the time he had been “getting up to speed” with his new job while experiencing some tiredness as a side effect of his multiple sclerosis. Magnus is the former chief of police in Tucson, Arizona.
