(Sacramento, CA) — California Lawmakers will meet Monday for a special session. Governor Gavin Newsom is calling on lawmakers to pass what he calls a ‘price gouging penalty’ on oil companies and pushing forward new efforts to increase transparency and accountability on oil companies. As of Saturday, gas prices were at the lowest level since late February sitting at four-89 a gallon. The record high in LA County was set on October 5th at six-49 a gallon. Prices are still over a dollar more than during when Biden came to office. This tactic was tried in the 1980s and caused less domestic production and increased dependence on imported oil.
