FBI Investigating Snapchat

(Los Angeles, CA) — and now the FBI is looking into Snapchat’s possible role in fentanyl overdose deaths. Carrie Goldberg is an attorney for one Orange County mom whose son died after buying an illicit pill from someone on Snapchat. Goldberg said Snapchat’s “foundational product feature is disappearing messages,” which draw in both minors interested in evading parental oversight, as well as drug dealers interested in dealing to vulnerable minors without detection. Snapchat released a statement saying they are committed to doing their part to fight the national fentanyl poisoning crisis, which includes shutting down drug dealers’ accounts.
