(Hagerstown, MD) — President Biden claims he authorized a Chinese surveillance balloon to be shot down days ago. Speaking with reporters while en route to Camp David Saturday, Biden claims he gave the order Wednesday, but it was recommended to wait until the balloon was over water. His statement comes as the Pentagon confirmed the balloon was shot down by fighter jets off the coast of South Carolina in U.S. waters. The statement also directly accused China of using the high altitude equipment to surveil strategic sites as it traveled across the country. It’s not clear yet if the action prevented the Chinese government from getting sensitive U.S. intelligence.
