(Sacramento, CA) — California lawmakers proposed 500 new bills Friday, this year’s introduction deadline, bringing the total to about 26-hundred. That’s the most in more than a decade, according to Capitol lobbyist Chris Micheli. Some of those are Assembly Bill 3 by Democrat Jasmeet Bains, which would increase oil production in California, while democratic senator Dave Min introduced Senate Bill 559 to end offshore oil drilling. Republican Jim Patterson and Democrat Carlos Villapudua both introduced bills to increase penalties for selling fentanyl. Other bills on the slate do things like protect tenants who have interactions with law enforcement, and one bill revives the effort to increase the minimum wage for healthcare workers to 25 dollars an hour.
