3-Day LAUSD Strike Expected to Begin Tuesday

(Los Angeles, CA) — Two unions representing a total of 65-thousand Los Angeles Unified School District employees are expected to go on a three-day strike starting Tuesday. Superintendent Alberto Carvalho says schools will have to shut down during those three days. SEIU Local 99 represents about 30-thousand cafeteria workers, bus drivers, custodians, special education assistants and other employees. United Teachers Los Angeles represents about 35-thousand teachers, counselors, therapists, nurses, and librarians. Both unions are in the middle of contract negotiations. SEIU Local 99 says its negotiations with the district have stalled.
