OH Leaders Keeping Eye On East Palestine After Train Derailment
(Columbus, OH) — Leaders in Ohio are keeping their focus on East Palestine after a toxic train derailment in that community. Governor Mike DeWine has sent a letter to Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw saying his office expects Shaw to champion good faith efforts to improve rail safety. Shaw is scheduled to testify to a U.S. Senate committee Wednesday in the ongoing response and investigation into February’s derailment. Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown is set to testify on behalf of the people of East Palestine at that same hearing. He and fellow Ohio Senator JD Vance have introduced a bipartisan bill that would increase nationwide rail safety standards.
