Alec Baldwin Wants Charges Dropped In ‘Rust’ Case

(Santa Fe, NM) — Lawyers for actor Alec Baldwin are accusing prosecutors handling his “Rust” shooting case of being unethical and politically motivated. The Santa Fe district attorney announced Andrea Reeb was hired as a special prosecutor to handle the case in August of last year involving the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. She was fatally wounded when a prop gun Baldwin was holding fired a live round during filming. Baldwin’s lawyers filed new documents dismissing their attempt to remove Reeb while seeming to outline potential future motions. The document goes on to accuse Reeb and the district attorney’s office of unprofessional and unethical conduct for various statements made about the case to a variety of news outlets. Baldwin’s team said they’re holding on to their rights to try and get the case dropped on the grounds that it’s politically motivated and violated his constitutional rights. Reeb stepped down as special prosecutor this month.
