All contract service workers at hospitals run by L-A County are now guaranteed 100-percent employer-paid healthcare benefits.
That’s after a vote by the L.A. County Board of Supervisors Tuesday. The benefits must be provided to contracted security, janitorial, environmental and food service workers at county-run hospitals who work at least 30 hours per week. Supervisor Holly Mitchell says she generally approves of the measure, but is concerned about its long-term financial impact on the county, cautioning that the county faces an uncertain budgetary future, including a possible billion-dollar shortfall from liability settlements
