(Beverly Hills, CA) — A new “Pink Panther” movie may soon be coming to a theater near you. “Variety” reports Eddie Murphy is taking part in negotiations to star as Inspector Clouseau in a new version of MGM’s comedy-mystery property. The franchise began in 1963 with Peter Sellers portraying the bumbling French police detective in “The Pink Panther.” Sellers would reprise the role in “A Shot in the Dark,” “The Return of the Pink Panther,” “The Pink Panther Strikes Again” and “Revenge of the Pink Panther.” Alan Arkin, Roger Moore and Steve Martin later took over the role. Among the producers of the upcoming “Pink Panther” movie is Julie Andrews, whose late husband Blake Edwards directed and co-wrote the screenplay for the original film. For the record, the Pink Panther refers to the name of a valuable diamond at the center of a heist.
Eddie Murphy will make a great Inspector Closeau.
