Electric Vehicle Batteries Could Be Mandated To Power More Than Cars. Huh?

By

/

(Sacramento, CA) — Legislation that state legislators must somehow thing would help the state’s electrical grid is closer to becoming reality. The California Senate just passed a bill that will make sure people who own electric vehicles can also use their EV’s battery to power their homes, reducing their energy bills–of course they would have to be charged with electricity from the power grid. SB 233 will require all new EV’s sold in the state by 2030 to come with bidirectional charging so the batteries could power not only homes, but, in the seemingly whimsical view of the politicians, also businesses and the state’s electrical grid. Ed Note: If the battery needs electric power from the grid to get charged, howis the car battery going to power the electric grid? The legislation’s next stop is the state Assembly.
