Anchorage Alaska’s Mayor Dave Bronson says he is still looking for answers to the area’s growing homeless problem. Last month he suggested buying one-way airline tickets to Los Angeles and other warm-climate cities, saying it is cheaper than the cost of housing and people won’t freeze to death.
Bronson has since met with members of the homeless community to offer the plane tickets and, according to the Los Angeles Times, the offer was roundly rejected. Bronson calls the idea an act of desperation because no new funding for homeless shelters has been approved for the city.
