Fast food restaurants have agreed to a 20 dollar minimum wage for workers in California. Under a new agreement between unions and fast food restaurants in California, the minimum wage for workers will go to 20 dollars an hour next year and voters will not weigh in on the issue next November.

The deal is for two dollars an hour lower than the initial California law and also eliminates a rule that would have held corporations liable for workplace violations at locations run by franchise operators. 

The Sacramento Bee says AB 1228 still needs approval from the state legislature and the Governor and is contingent on withdrawal of the ballot referendum against AB 257, last year’s bill that created a fast food council to oversee pay and workplace issues in the industry.
